What is Magento?

Magento is an open-source e-commerce solution that was launched in 2008 by an American company called “Varien”.

Having repeatedly won the “Best of Open Source Software Awards” and garnering the attention of some of the biggest names (including Ebay managers). In 2018, Magento, one of the leading e-commerce platforms, was acquired by Adobe and has since evolved to become Adobe Commerce. This transition has strengthened the platform’s position by offering a range of enhanced features to meet the changing needs of online commerce.

It was a match made in heaven: combining the performance of the Magento platform with all the digital possibilities offered by market-leading Adobe, digital commerce is just as accessible to clients in the B2C or B2B sector in all industries as it is to clients in the public sector, both for the sales management of digital products and for physical goods and consumables (from retail to wholesale).

Magento is also always at the cutting edge of technology, thanks to its dynamic community of more than 300,000 developers! Magento provides very detailed documentation for its modules, offers a “Magento University” (Magento U) and has implemented a rigorous certification system for its consultants and developers.

With thousands of predefined, ready-to-use extensions (including payment, shipping, tax management and logistics), the high level of flexibility offers every business the possibility of quickly boosting and replicating its commercial capabilities to respond to their unique needs!

Magento’s features

Magento boasts more features than anyone else in the e-commerce market:

  • Multi-language / Multi-store / Multi-shop
  • Automatic reminders for browsers who have abandoned their shopping basket
  • Easy management of configurable items, packs or groups of items
  • Gift vouchers / Personalised offers / Wish List / Birth list etc.
  • Product comparison
  • Multi-location stock management
  • Lots of plugins available
  • Lots of APIs

For small businesses

Magento offers integrated basic sales features, including hosting and deployment in the Cloud, support, data management and the tools you need to speed up your sales. What’s more, Magento links you up with a certified partner offering Express implementation packages at cost-effective prices to help you get started quickly and easily: creating an e-commerce website for small businesses has never been easier! Not to mention the fact that Magento will adapt to the way your business evolves over time as traffic to your site increases.

For medium and large businesses

Magento is the perfect partner for any businesses with “moderately complex” projects: Infinitely customisable, this solution will meet all your needs thanks to its standard features, with no need for made-to-measure developments: Integrated B2B functionality – Integrated international support for transactions in multiple countries – Suitable for e-commerce sites with more than 10,000 items – GWS (Global/website/store) functionality whereby multiple online shops can be managed by one and the same company at the same time, so that each level of the architecture can be managed independently without the need to duplicate shared data or configurations!

Magento takes care of everything…

Search engine listings

Magento helps you optimise your search engine listings, thanks to natural listings (SEO), managing duplicate content and paid-for listings (SEA), as well as, for example, automatically integrating your project in “Smart campaigns” provided by Google Ads.

Sales facilitator

Thanks to its integration with Google Ads Smart Campaign and with Amazon, Magento 2 is also the perfect solution to help you sell thousands of products easily using Google tools, and boost targeted traffic to your website. You don’t need to manage 3 separate sales channels anymore, you can manage everything from your Magento e-commerce platform.

Magento2 versions available

Magento2 (Magento mark 2) is available in 3 versions:

Magento Open Source (Community Edition)

is the open-source version of Magento and is the most widely used solution: users are free to change the software configuration to respond to their specific needs. This solution is free of charge and hosted wherever you want (OVH, Combell, internal server etc.).
Thanks to its incredibly modular architecture, its wide range of features, its robustness and its ability to manage large catalogues of items, Magento 2 is fairly “greedy” when it comes to resources, and is therefore generally installed on a dedicated server.

Magento Commerce (Enterprise Edition)

With the same foundations as the Open Source version, Magento Commerce works even better, boasting a number of features that are only possible in the Open Source version by adding plugins e.g.: gift cards, birth lists etc.). It’s also a particularly good solution for very large catalogues of items (>1M!) thanks to the use of Elastic Search (or Open Search in the latest versions) for indexing. The price structure for Magento 2 Commerce depends on your turnover, and starts at 22k USD/year.

Magento Commerce Cloud (Enterprise Cloud Edition)

Magento Commerce Cloud is the Magento Commerce solution provided on an SaaS basis (Software as a Service). You no longer need to worry about hosting, performance, security or updates. The price structure for the Commerce Cloud version is along the same lines as the Commerce version, and starts at 40k USD/year.
